Dar es Salaam, Monday 14 September 2026 — Stanbic Bank Tanzania (@StanbicBankTz) is investing TZS 100 million in the Nyerere Cycling Tour 2026, a 1,415-kilometre ride that honours the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, by turning his philosophy into practical work in the communities along the route.

The Tour begins in Dar es Salaam on 4 October 2026 with a cycling race to Bagamoyo, ahead of the official flag-off towards Butiama on 5 October. More than 200 cyclists from Tanzania and abroad are expected to ride to Butiama, Mwalimu Nyerere’s home, where the journey concludes on 14 October.

The commitment marks Stanbic’s third consecutive year supporting the initiative. For the Bank, the value of the partnership goes beyond visibility on the road. It is an opportunity to stand behind a platform that brings together communities, institutions and businesses around a shared ambition for Tanzania.

“We are putting TZS 100 million behind this year’s Tour because we believe purposeful investment should move with the country, reach communities and help create opportunity. The Nyerere Cycling Tour gives us a powerful platform to do that while celebrating values that continue to matter to Tanzania: unity, progress and service to people. We expect to touch the lives of 25,000 Tanzanians through this year’s Tour,” said Annette Nkini, Sustainability Manager, Stanbic Bank Tanzania.

In keeping with Mwalimu Nyerere’s call to fight ignorance, disease and poverty, Stanbic has worked with the organisers to deliver community projects in all 10 regions the Tour passes through. This year’s programme includes the construction of 10 classrooms, the renovation of 40 classrooms, the donation of 1,000 desks and the planting of 1,100 trees. Stanbic Bank specialists certified by the Bank of Tanzania will also deliver free financial literacy training in every community along the route.

Formerly known as Twende Butiama, the Tour enters 2026 under the Nyerere Cycling Tour identity, honouring Mwalimu Nyerere’s legacy through a journey that places education, health, environmental conservation, youth empowerment and community development at the centre of its purpose.

Those priorities closely reflect how Stanbic approaches its role in Tanzania. Having served the country for more than three decades, the Bank continues to invest in areas that expand opportunity, strengthen communities and support sustainable economic growth. Its participation in the Tour is part of a wider story about the role a financial institution can play beyond banking.

“Our business grows when Tanzania grows. That is why we choose partnerships that allow us to contribute to something larger than the Bank itself. We want our presence to be felt not only in transactions and financial solutions, but also in the progress of the communities we serve,” said Nkini.

The Bank’s contribution forms part of a three-year agreement between Stanbic, Vodacom and the organisers of the Nyerere Cycling Tour, running from 2025 to 2027 and valued at TZS 300 million, with Stanbic committing TZS 100 million each year. The 2026 edition brings together a broader coalition of partners, with Coca-Cola joining as hydration partner and BYD as fleet and mobility partner. Stanbic said the expanding partnership demonstrates what becomes possible when organisations bring different strengths to a common national platform.

As the Tour moves towards its October journey, Stanbic will use the partnership to deepen engagement with communities and demonstrate its brand promise in action: Tanzania is our Home, We Drive Her Growth.
